SUMMARY:Alabama Mike
DESCRIPTION:Alabama Mike\, born Michael Benjamin in Talladega\, Alabama\, channels the deep traditions of\ngospel and Southern soul into a blues voice that is equal parts raw\, refined\, and utterly\nunforgettable. Influenced early by his father\, a gifted quartet tenor singer\, Mike developed a\nvocal style rooted in the gospel church—powerful\, emotional\, and steeped in truth. Now based in\nOakland\, California\, he tours internationally with his band The Revelators\, captivating audiences\nwith a sound that blends blues\, soul\, funk\, and grit.\nAlabama Mike’s rise in the modern blues world has been both swift and well-earned. His recent\nalbum\, Stuff I’ve Been Through (Little Village Foundation)\, is a deeply personal collection that\nhas earned him a 2024 Blues Foundation nomination for Soul Blues Album of the Year\,\ncomplementing his consecutive nominations for Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year in 2024 and\n2025. In 2023\, he was honored with the Muddy Waters Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jus’\nBlues Music Awards Foundation—testament to the impact he’s made in a relatively short time.\nDrawing from influences like ZZ Hill\, Johnnie Taylor\, Junior Wells\, and Jimmy McCracklin\,\nAlabama Mike carries the torch for traditional blues while injecting it with fresh\, contemporary\nurgency. His backing band—Ronnie Smith (drums)\, Bobby Young (guitar)\, Lorenzo Hawkins\n(keys)\, and AJ Joyce (bass)—features some of the Bay Area’s most respected musicians\, all with\ndeep roots in gospel\, funk\, soul\, and blues. Together\, they create a sound that’s both timeless and\ncurrent\, spiritual and streetwise—a testament to the “stuff he’s been through\,” and the soul he\ncontinues to pour into every note.

SUMMARY:Vanessa Collier with Laura Chavez
DESCRIPTION:Vanessa Collier is an award-winning singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and\nproducer whose sixth album\, Do It My Own Way (Phenix Fire Records)\, drops September 13\nwith the soulful thunder of Stax and Hi Records’ golden era. With analog production\,\nclassic Memphis-style horn arrangements\, and deeply personal songwriting\, the album\ndraws on the legacy of Mavis Staples\, Sharon Jones\, and Aretha Franklin while asserting\nCollier’s own bold voice in today’s blues and soul landscape. \nThe record features standout tracks like the anthemic “Wild As A Rainstorm\,” which landed\non Spotify’s Retro Soul playlist\, and the slinky\, defiant title track “Do It My Own Way\,” which\ntackles sexism in the music industry head-on. From the noir-Americana of “Take Me Back”\nto the gospel tribute “Rosetta” honoring Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, and the heartfelt closer\n“Warrior\,” Collier’s songs are powered by emotional depth\, vintage tones\, and razor-sharp\nmusicianship. Her collaborators include legendary Hi Records organist Rev. Charles\nHodges and award-winning guitarist Laura Chavez. \nA Berklee College of Music alumna and former member of Joe Louis Walker’s band\, Collier\nhas emerged as one of the most vital voices in blues today. With four Blues Music Awards\nto her name — including Horn Player of the Year and Contemporary Blues Female Artist of\nthe Year — she’s headlined major festivals like the Chicago Blues Festival and opened for\nacts such as Blues Traveler. From Texas to Maryland\, Philadelphia to South Carolina\,\nCollier’s journey has been anything but ordinary — and Do It My Own Way is her powerful\nstatement of self\, delivered through groove\, grit\, and grace.

SUMMARY:Walter Trout
DESCRIPTION:Walter Trout stands among the greatest living blues-rock guitarists\, known for his fiery fretwork\,\nsoulful vocals\, and emotionally charged songwriting. With a career that spans over 50 years\,\nTrout first made his mark playing alongside blues icons like John Lee Hooker\, Big Mama\nThornton\, and Canned Heat\, before stepping into the spotlight as a member of John Mayall’s\nBluesbreakers. Since launching his solo career in 1989\, he has released a string of critically\nacclaimed albums\, earning widespread praise and multiple honors from the Blues Music Awards\,\nBritish Blues Awards\, and beyond. \nA survivor in every sense—having battled personal demons\, health crises\, and the ever-evolving\nmusic industry—Trout brings a rare depth and authenticity to his live shows. His recent work\nshowcases an artist still in creative overdrive\, crafting music that speaks to the fractures of the\nworld while holding fiercely to hope and idealism. Whether bending strings into wails of anguish\nor whispering intimate truths\, Walter Trout remains a vital force in blues and rock\, delivering\nperformances that are as cathartic as they are unforgettable.
