About the San Jose Fountain Blues & Brews Festival

In 1981, San Jose State University Associated Students wanted to do a free-of-charge show to repay their fans for their support during the year. After a sold-out concert at the San Jose Civic Auditorium that Spring, the SJSU board of directors decided on a blues festival format for the following year. In 1982, John Lee Hooker and the Coast-to-Coast Blues Band were hired to headline, over 2,500 people came, and the tradition has grown from there, to thousands of attendees in downtown San Jose’s central park – Plaza de Cesar Chavez.

In addition to the main stage, the Poor House Bistro Stage will offer a captivating blend of soulful blues and high-energy rock music from younger South Bay musicians before and between main stage acts.

Craft Beers, Wines, Ciders & Food: Alongside top-notch blues performances, there will be an array of more than 20 breweries showcasing their craft beers, wines, and ciders.  Plus the best in local barbecue, New Orleans and other southern-style foods, an artist vendor zone, and interactive family-friendly activities area.

The San Jose Fountain Blues & Brews Festival is supported in part by a Cultural Affairs grant from the City of San José and produced by the Fountain Blues Foundation.
