John Németh & The Blues Dreamers
June 15, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
About the Artist
John Németh‘s musical journey began in the muddy potato fields of Idaho in the early ’90s, where he initially found solace in the hard-edged sounds of hip-hop and rock. However, a pivotal moment occurred when a friend introduced him to the classic blues album “Hoodoo Man Blues” by Junior Wells and Buddy Guy, igniting his passion for the genre. From then on, Németh immersed himself in the local music scene, honing his skills on the harmonica and vocals while opening for nationally touring blues acts.
In 2004, Németh made the move to San Francisco, where he had the opportunity to fill in for the ailing Sam Myers in Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets. This experience exposed him to the soulful sounds of the Bay Area, shaping his musical style with what he terms “the early East Bay Grease sound.”
Under the Blind Pig label, Németh released two acclaimed albums, “Love Me Tonight” (2009) and “Name The Day” (2010), both of which reached #6 on the Billboard Blues Chart. These successes marked the beginning of his impressive string of Blues Music Award nominations, totaling 20 to date. Additionally, he secured two Blues Blast Music Awards for Best New Artist Debut Recording and the Sean Costello Rising Star Award. Independent releases followed in 2012 with “Blues Live” and “Soul Live.”
In 2013, Németh relocated to Memphis, where he delved into the soulful roots of the city, resulting in the album “Memphis Grease” (2014 Blue Corn), a homage to soul classics that debuted at #4 on the Billboard Blues Chart. His efforts earned him the 2014 BMA for Best Soul Blues Male Artist, and his album won Best Soul Blues Album in 2015.
Breaking barriers of style and genre, Németh released “Feelin’ Freaky” in 2017 on his own Memphis Grease label, showcasing original songs that drew from a diverse range of influences. Returning to Electraphonic in 2019 with his band The Blue Dreamers, he delivered “Stronger Than Strong,” his 10th album, seamlessly blending retro and modern blues and soul.
