Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears

June 18, 2022 @ 6:20 pm - 7:50 pm at Plaza de Cesar Chavez

About the Event

Embodying a deep repertoire of sounds, drawing from the heavy grooves of Albert King, the punked-up blues of R.L. Burnside, the storytelling of Bobby “Blue” Bland, the raw rootsiness of Howlin’ Wolf, the funk of James Brown and the soulfully layered horns of The Rolling Stones, Austin-based Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears (BJL+H) have been converting the next generation of music fans into blues fans through relentless touring and spreading their contagious fusion of funk, Southern retro-soul and garage rock.

BJL+H started gaining attention after 2007 tours opening for indie rock bands Spoon and Okkervil River – as well as crowd-pleasing performances at 2008s Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Musical Festivals.  This carried over into becoming a mainstay on the most popular festival rosters, including:  Bonnaroo, Coachella, Bumbershoot, Outside Lands, Sasquatch! to name a few.  They’ve also appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson; Late Show with David Letterman; Austin City Limits and Later…With Jools Holland. With influences ranging from the shouting blues of Wilson Pickett, to the soulful crooning of Sam Cooke, Black Joe Lewis wins over fans of all ages with a timeless blend of old and new music that comes deep from the soul – and withstands the test of time.
