M’sippi Slide

June 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

About the Artist

M’sippi Slide is a rhythm and blues powerhouse born out of a deep love for the timeless soul
sounds of the 1950s and ’60s. Fronted by the magnetic Lijah—a vocalist whose voice evokes the
legendary power of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Marvin Gaye—the band brings a visceral,
emotionally rich sound to every performance. Lijah’s passion for music was sparked in her
hometown of San Jose, where her father’s record collection filled her childhood with the sounds
of Motown and Southern soul. That early influence now fuels her dynamic performances, which
blend raw emotion with classic R&B grooves.

Since forming in late 2022, M’sippi Slide has built a loyal fanbase, driven by the chemistry and
musicianship of its core members: guitarist Johnny Cat Soubrand, bassist Frank DeRose,
drummer Scotty Griffin, and rhythm guitarist Ryan Ward. Johnny Cat and DeRose have played a
crucial role in helping Lijah refine her vocal presence and develop a powerful, authentic sound
rooted in the tradition of American soul.

With their heartfelt delivery, high-octane stage presence, and deep respect for the legacy of
R&B, M’sippi Slide doesn’t just perform music—they revive a feeling. Their shows are a
journey through sound and soul, inviting audiences to dance, sway, and feel every note.
